JASON WILLAFORD’S SUMMER RESIDENCY IN
EAST HAMPTON MARKS AN ONGOING INITIATIVE
WITH THE DALLAS CONTEMPORARY.
t was at the end of the third day washing my brushes in the paint-splattered
mop sink, when I had the ah-ha moment, ‘I’m washing my brushes in
Elaine de Kooning’s mop sink!’ I started thinking of all the great artists
who had worked in the space before me. I wondered if they’d had the same ah-ha moment. The longer I was there, the more I understood why the place was
built the way it was—the functionality for an artist was impeccable, there was
a reason for everything, and it all made sense.” – Jason Willaford
