Old, Something New, Something Funky, Something
Blue showcases the work of emerging and
established local artists in all media ranging
from visual to performance art. Through
Aug. 23. Texas Critters, Sept. 6–Oct. 25,
shows paintings of birds, fish, and other
animals by Dallas artists and includes a solo
exhibition featuring works of Janet Turner’s
flora and fauna in Expressive Symbolism. At the

of Texas displays the photographic artistry of

The Spanish Gesture: Drawings from Murillo
to Goya in the Hamburger Kunsthalle displays
80 artworks by a number of Spain’s most
talented artists. The exhibition, showcased
in partnership with the Museo Nacional del
Prado, continues through Aug. 31 and will
subsequently be shown internationally in
Madrid. On Aug. 10 and 24, and Sept. 7 and
21, Drawing from the Masters allows guests to
explore a variety of drawing techniques with
the help of participating artist Ian O’Brien.

The Lone Star Film Society’s ArthouseFW
joins the museum in celebration of Japanese
film director, animator, and screenwriter
Hayao Miyazaki, and his career that spanned
six decades, with selected showings of his

28–31, a series of films by Alfred Hitchcock

In a self-titled show, a series of freestanding
works of L.A.-based artist Mark Grotjahn
are displayed through Aug. 17. In the first
major museum exhibition of the work of
Thomas Heather wick in the U.S., Provocations:
The Architecture and Design of Heather wick Studio
explores the creative process behind each of
the studio’s designs from Longchamp bags
to rotation-molded chairs. The show opens
Sept. 13 with a lecture from Heatherwick,
