Forget about the trending high-end food trucks—photographer Kelly Berry
takes a look at that phenomena’s hardscrabble antecedents:
bicycling vendors, pushcarts, trailers, and walk-up windows—Foodies.
hotographer Kelly Berry, a Fort Worth native who now calls Murphy, Texas, home, is
fascinated with old-fashioned street-level nourishment delivery systems like pushcarts,
bicycling vendors, walk-up windows, and stands of all kinds. “Of course there are a lot of
food trucks around now,” Berry says, “but that just wasn’t for me for these photos—too
slick, too modern, too hip. I was looking for something that’s more genuine and old-time, that’s
going to be here after the food truck craze subsides.” Berry’s Foodies series started five years ago on
a trip to New Mexico, and he’s been obsessed ever since. Traveling to small towns and big cities
alike, Berry’s eye is always “on.” Patron shares some of the results in this exclusive print exhibition.

In the American West portraits, although Avedon didn’t contextualize. Philosophically, the image may
owe more to Studs Terkel’s iconic Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel
About What They Do. “With shots like this it’s almost like street photography,” Berry says. “There

me pointing, everyone gets the idea. Still they’re usually puzzled. ‘Why does this guy want to do
this, what’s the big deal here?’ To me, it’s something unique and I don’t think a lot of people have
necessarily seen this kind of thing in Dallas. You may not even be aware that it exists, unless you
stroll up and down here on a Saturday. But to him, this is just perfectly normal everyday—he’s doing
